Brow Lift
The eyes often reveal the first noticeable signs of aging. A tired or aged look may be due to changes limited to the eyelids themselves however, in some individuals drooping of the eyebrows is an important contributing factor. Drooping of the eyebrows can give the appearance of excess upper eyelid skin as well as cause forehead wrinkles from over activity of the forehead muscles trying to elevate the brows. A brow lift restores drooping eyebrows to a more natural and youthful position. There are different types of brow lifts that can be performed depending on the patients’ specific anatomy and desires. After a careful, comprehensive evaluation Dr. Ruhge will recommend the best method to achieve the look you desire.

The Surgery
Depending on your specific requirements the brow lift may be performed using a classical technique called a coronal brow lift or with the more commonly used limited incision techniques such as an endoscopic or temporal brow lift. Regardless of the technique chosen, the incisions for brow lifts are usually hidden within the hair. The incisions are almost always small and inconspicuous. The surgery typically lasts one to two hours depending on the techniques chosen. Brow lift surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure in a fully accredited surgery center. Anesthesia is administered by a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
After Surgery
Following surgery you are cared for by a registered nurse in the surgery center recovery room. Once you are fully awake a friend or relative may take you home. The incisions are covered with antibiotic ointment and dressings. Dr. Ruhge recommends you sleep with your head elevated for 48 hours to help reduce swelling. Sutures will be removed six days after surgery. You are seen at frequent intervals during the first few weeks and months following surgery to ensure proper healing. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within two weeks. Dr. Ruhge recommends allowing one to two weeks for recovery before returning to work. You may begin light exercise after four weeks and strenuous exercise after five weeks. The final look after brow lift is seen typically after two months.
