Pasadena Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty)
The abdominal area is often the most troubling part of one’s body. Excess skin, fat and laxity of the abdomen can be the result of pregnancy, weight loss or genetic predisposition. A tummy tuck procedure is often the best way to combat these problems and restore one’s youthful shape. A tummy tuck surgery consists of three components: removal of excess skin, repair/tightening of the abdominal muscles and liposuction of the waist. The combination of these three elements results in the complete rejuvenation of the abdomen. Dr. Ruhge will conduct a thorough, personalized evaluation with you and will customize the procedure to meet your individual needs. A detailed review of the tummy tuck procedure will be done with you to ensure you have a complete understanding of everything involved.
Client Testimonial
"I have never encountered a doctor that has all of the exceptional qualities that Dr. Kevin has all in one!!!! When he performed my tummy tuck and 5 years later, my breast reduction, he did an amazing job, and he was available any time of day that I needed to speak to him. His bedside manner is second to none, and his skill with the procedures is extremely precise, and as close to perfect as it gets." - A.O.
The Tummy Tuck Surgery
The tummy tuck surgery is performed by making a horizontal incision along the lower abdomen within the bikini line. The incision is made just above the pubic area and can be hidden by a bikini or low-cut jeans. The incision can extend to the hip bones or just beyond but will be made as short as possible. Excess abdominal skin is removed and the stomach muscles are repaired and tightened. Lastly, the waist region is contoured using liposuction to create a smooth transition from the front to the back. The belly button is also reshaped to give it a more youthful appearance. Tummy tuck surgeries are usually performed as an outpatient procedure in a fully accredited surgery center. Anesthesia is administered by a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
Mini-Tummy Tuck
In certain situations when loose skin is located only in the lower abdominal area and no muscle tightening is needed, a mini-tummy tuck can be performed. This is a somewhat less invasive procedure and usually has a shorter scar but is limited to a specific body type. During your consultation Dr. Ruhge will discuss with you the various options available and whether you are a candidate for a Mini-Tummy Tuck.
After Surgery
Following surgery you are cared for by a registered nurse in the surgery center recovery room. Once you are fully awake a friend or relative may take you home. The wounds will be covered with bandages and one or two small drains will be in place to remove any fluid that may collect within the wound. You are seen at frequent intervals during the first few weeks and months following surgery to ensure proper healing. The drainage tubes are usually removed within one to two weeks and sutures come out at one and three weeks. Dr. Ruhge typically recommends you to be off work for two weeks, after which you may return provided your work does not require strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting. Light exercise may be commenced at three weeks but Dr. Ruhge recommends strenuous exercise be resumed only after six weeks to allow proper healing. The final shape and form following Tummy Tuck are seen after approximately three months. Throughout the entire process Dr. Ruhge will guide you and advise you regarding all matters related to your surgery and recovery.
Related Procedures
Tummy Tuck is often performed as an isolated procedure. However, if a patient desires additional plastic surgical treatment such as breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction of additional areas or facial rejuvenation this can be combined in select cases.
