Facial Fillers (Juvederm and Restylane)
Loss of facial volume is a well recognized part of aging. Deep lines begin to form in the cheek to lip transition (nasolabial fold), the cheek to chin junction (marionette lines) and the lower eyelid to cheek junction (tear trough). Full cheeks lose their prominence and lips begin to look thin and wrinkled. As the skin sags from loss of volume and support in these transition zones they begin to cast shadows resulting in an aged appearance. Restoration of volume using fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane can smooth out transition zones and replace what is lost by supporting the fallen tissues.
These days there are many different fillers to choose from. Those that last the longest tend to have the most potential for problems. Dr. Ruhge recommends Juvederm and Restylane which he feels provide the most natural look and have the best balance between the risk of side effects and longevity. Juvederm and Restylane contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that creates volume and fullness. They are injected using tiny needles into the deep layer of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Topical or local anesthetics are used to provide maximum comfort during the procedure. There is little or no down time and the treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. The effects of Juvederm and Restylane last from six months to one year depending on the area treated.
Related Procedures
Juvederm and Restylane can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures such as Botox Cosmetic and laser skin rejuvenation.
