Inverted Nipple Correction
Many women have inversion of one or both nipples. Although a common condition it is rarely talked about and often a source of embarrassment for those affected. Nipple inversion is caused by shortened breast ducts that hold the nipple in. Correction involves a straight forward and often minimally invasive procedure to release the retracted nipple.
Client Testimonial
"I am so happy after my surgery. I was always so embarrassed about having inverted nipples but Dr. Ruhge instantly made me feel comfortable at my consultation and thoroughly explained the procedure to me. It seems silly but it has completely changed my self-image. Thank you Dr. Ruhge." - A.C.
The Surgery
Surgical correction of the retracted nipple is a minimally invasive procedure and typically involves a small incision along the base of the nipple. The ducts are released and the nipple acquires its natural shape. The incision is inconspicuous and barely visible once healed. Correction of inverted nipples is done as an outpatient procedure in a fully accredited surgery center. It can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation administered by a Board Certified Anesthesiologist for more comfort.
After Surgery
Following surgery you are cared for by a registered nurse in the surgery center recovery room. Once you are fully awake a friend or relative may take you home. If the surgery is done under local anesthesia you may drive yourself if you wish. Dressings will be in place following surgery and will be changed once daily for a week. Sutures are removed in one week. You are seen at frequent intervals during the first few weeks and months following surgery to ensure proper healing. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within two weeks. Recovery is rapid therefore you may return to work in one day. You may begin light exercise after one week and strenuous exercise after two weeks. No bra or compressive clothing should be worn for three weeks.
Related Procedures
Correction of inverted nipples is most often performed as an isolated procedure but can be combined with other surgical procedures if desired. Procedures often combined are liposuction, breast lift, tummy tuck and facial rejuvenation.
