You may have heard about a popular new skin rejuvenation treatment that can treat wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and even acne scars all without a single incision. It’s not fiction!
The eMax skin rejuvenation system from Syneron does just that. Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) are extremely effective in restoring a youthful, smooth skin with an even color. This is a non-invasive solution for:
- Acne scarring
- Skin texture issues
- Skin sagging
- Uneven skin tone
- Brown spots
- Stretch marks
- Skin lesions
The eMax platform uses a deep dermal heating process with RF energy (fractionated bi-polar radio frequency technology) to get deep into the tissue to tighten and rejuvenate the skin from the inside out.
For even skin color and smooth texture the IPL is used while the Matrix fractional laser and ReFirme work best for treatment of wrinkles and skin tightening. For total facial rejuvenation all three treatments are combined in the Triniti procedure.
The eMax is safe for all skin tones and skin types. There are three types of treatment. The one you choose will depend on the level of rejuvenation you need to correct your skin tone or scars:
1. Skin Rejuvenation – Fotofacial
2. Refirme – skin tightening
3. Matrix IR – wrinkle correction
eMax treatments usually last between 10 and 20 minutes depending on the area being treated and the type of treatment being given. There is practically no downtime for patients and the results are truly astounding.
Patients usually require 3-5 treatments about 4-6 weeks apart and results typically take 3-6 months to appear. There are some immediate results, however, and patients typically report an improvement in skin texture and tightening after just the first treatment.
It is important to note that eMax is not for everyone. Individuals with the following conditions may not be candidates for eMax skin rejuvenation treatments and should talk to their doctor about possible alternatives:
- Pregnant women are not a candidate for eMax
- Anyone on Accutane within in past 6 months
- Patients with pacemakers
- Patients with internal defibrillators
- Patients with metal implants in the area surrounding the eMax treatments
- Diabetes sufferers
- Patients with autoimmune Diseases
While the procedure may be slightly uncomfortable, pain is reduced significantly with the application of a topical anesthetic. After the treatment, patients may experience redness and swelling in the skin that can last for several hours to several days.
While the risks are minimal, there is a small risk for developing scar tissue or infection after undergoing an eMax procedure. All potential risks and side effects should be discussed with your qualified physician prior to scheduling the procedure.

Immediately After
After you undergo the eMax skin rejuvenation treatments, your skin will likely be red and swollen. These symptoms typically resolve in a few days. It’s a good idea to keep your skin protected with a good moisturizer and a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher as a matter of course, but especially for the duration of your treatment.
You can, however, wear makeup during the initial days following the procedure and most makeup will cover up any redness or marks left by the eMax device.

Combining Cosmetic Procedures
Combinations of treatments are commonly performed. The eMax facial treatments are often combined together in a treatment known as the Triniti to achieve maximum improvement in texture and firmness.
The eMax can also be performed together with Botox injections and injectable fillers, however, it is important to review all combinations with your plastic surgeon carefully so you can understand the potential risks and side effects.
